📖 Partition of Bengal (1905) Lord Curzon was the Viceroy of India at the time of the Partition of Bengal. Surendranath Banerjee opposed the partition of Bengal. In July 1905, Lord Curzon issued an order dividing the province of Bengal into two parts. East Bengal consisted of Dacca, Mymensingh, Assam, Khulna, Rangpur, and Bogra districts. Bihar and Orissa formed a separate province called West Bengal, with Calcutta as its capital, and it became a Hindu-majority province. Nawab Salimullah Khan was the leader of the Muslims of East Bengal at that time. The anti-partition agitation started on 17 August 1905 by the Hindus. The Swadeshi Movement was officially proclaimed on 7 August 1905 at the Calcutta Town Hall. The annulment of the Partition of Bengal was announced by Lord Hardinge in the Delhi Durbar in 1911.
