The table was full of people I didn’t know

The table was full of people I didn’t know. Investors. Business partners. Wealthy faces I couldn’t read. And then there was me. Quiet. Invisible. Waiting for the night to end. My father controlled the conversation like a stage performance. Every sentence he spoke was designed to impress someone. Except when it came to me. Then his tone changed. “So this is my son,” he said loudly. “The future… or maybe not.” A few people chuckled. I forced a polite smile. Then one of the guests asked me what I did. I explained carefully. Coding. Projects. Startup ideas. But before I could finish… My father interrupted. “He doesn’t have a job,” he said quickly. “Still chasing little computer dreams.” And then came the line again… “He’ll never make a dime.” More laughter. My hands tightened under the table. I felt smaller with every second. Like I was shrinking in a room that didn’t want me to exist. But I stayed quiet. Because I wanted to see where this would end. And I didn’t have to wait long.
